He didn't kiss me.
I was ok with that, though. We had a really great time at the Halloween party, and I knew that feelings were definitely there...for both of us.
I walked up to my dorm room, got my pajamas on, and laid in bed for at least another hour feeling like my heart was going to pound out of my chest. All I wanted to do was talk to him.
I. Was. Smitten.
The next morning, I was working on homework when my phone rang.
I looked to see who was calling, and wouldn't you know?
It was Michael.
My heart skipped a beat (or two or three...)
I tried to act calm, cool, and collected as I answered.
K: "Hello?"
M: "Good morning! Did you get good sleep last night?"
K: (Not wanting to let him know that I couldn't sleep, thanks to the great time we had last night) I replied, "Yeah. I had a great time last night. Thanks again for inviting me."
M: "I had a really great time too. I'm glad you were able to come. Hey, I was wondering if you wanted to hang out today...are you free?"
K: (I'm pretty sure before he could even ask his question, I responded) "Yeah! That would be fun! What were you thinking?"
M: "Well, my favorite game is Scrabble. I was hoping you could come over to my place so we could watch Ghostbusters 2 while playing a game of Scrabble."
(Side note: I have many quirks. One of my quirks is that I'm not a huge fan of playing a game I've never played before with a person I don't know very well. Weird, right? I think it's because I don't want to look like a fool in front of someone who I'm trying to make a good impression on. I know, I know, it's really strange. I don't think I'll ever get over it, either.)
K: "Ummm sure! I've never played Scrabble before, so you'll have to teach me...I hope that's ok."
M: "You bet. You'll get the hang of it quickly. I'll be over around 5."
And with that, our phone call was over.
I had plans with Michael! I didn't have to wait until Tuesday, when I'd see him in class. SCORE!
I don't think I was able to focus on much that afternoon while waiting for 5:00 to roll around.
He came and picked me up right on time, I got to spend time getting to know his roommates better (all of whom I absolutely adore now), we watched Ghostbusters 2, chatted about the Halloween party, and I learned how to play Scrabble.
The night ended (AGAIN!) all too quickly; however, we had set up another date (sly like he is...). He asked me if I wanted to come to his place for lunch after our class got out on Tuesday.
I obviously said yes.
Turns out, Michael had quite the meal planned for us (the meal that "won me over"...or so he tells everyone).
Macaroni & Cheese with hot dogs.
(Anyone else have this meal as a child? It was a favorite for my sister and me).
I don't think I had eaten that combo since I was 7, so it was a true delight to see that's what he had prepared (and I'm being SERIOUS, people!)
Lunch had to be quick since we were both in between two classes, so we quickly scarfed our food, talked for a few minutes, and then it was time to go...
but wait.
Right before we got up from the couch, he leaned in and kissed me.
Heavens to Betsy, I know I saw fireworks.
As if I wasn't already interested in this man, that kiss sealed the deal.
It was not soon after (November 10th, I believe?) we decided to put a label on our rapidly blossoming romance.
He was my boyfriend.
Fast forward a bit...December was a fun month.
We attended our college ministry's Winter Dance...
...went to a Christmas party that our friends were hosting...
...and I even drove to his hometown after Christmas to spend time with his family, go snow skiing (which, for the record books, I will never do again, but that's another post for another day), and attend the "Black and White" New Year's party that him and some of his high school friends were throwing.
(Michael had already met my parents before Thanksgiving. They adored him from day one.)
The beginning of January provided for another "relationship milestone", if you will.
We took our first (mini) trip.
His older brother had just graduated from college and was starting his new job down south, so the whole family went down to help him get settled. Michael and I went, along with his mom, dad, younger brother, and older brother's girlfriend.
Things were really going great.
In fact, better than anything I'd experienced before.
...until March rolled around.
Little did we know, refining of the relationship was much needed.
**Stay tuned for part 4.
The husband has so graciously volunteered to write this one...**
Pin It Now!
Kristin...this is great! I feel like you're on your way to the next Pioneer Woman romance novel. Can't wait to read Michael's post! - Mallory
