Our Top 5 Favorite Board Books Over Here

I grew up with a LOVE of reading (thank you, mom and dad, for instilling that in us girls as little ones)!

I remember curling up on my mom or dad's lap and listening to them read stories to me.

I remember watching their lips move to form each word that came out of their mouth.  It was all so amazing to me (I suppose that was my teacher instinct coming out at an early age...).

When I found out I was pregnant, I knew I wanted to have a LOT of books readily available for baby K to read.  Luckily, I had collected a pretty heavy load of children's books thanks to my 3 years of teaching first grade.

We also received several more baby/toddler board books at each baby shower.

Every day (often several times a day), I will find James sitting quietly flipping through books on his own.

It melts my heart.

He seems so sweet and innocent, curled up with a good book.

We like to keep books easily accessible around here.

We have book baskets in all places of the house, so he can easily grab a book on the fly.

Sometimes he'll sit and flip through the books, sometimes he'll want me to read him stories, and other times his main goal is to completely empty out rearrange the books in the baskets.

When he gets older, I hope to create a "themed" basket in the family room.
That basket will have books that match the season or special occasion.

In our 14 months together, we have come to love all of his books, but have a special place in our heart for a certain 5 books (that we read A. LOT.)

Without further ado, and in no particular order...our "Top 5 Favorite Board Books":

Number 1: Baby Bear, Baby Bear, What Do You See?
Number 2: The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Number 3: That's Not My Dinosaur...
Number 4: The Going To Bed Book
Number 5: The Little Blue Truck

These books all have something special about them.

The bright colors, the fun/silly characters, and the length all make them extra appealing to James and myself.  If you're in need of a great board book, check one of these all of these out.  It's worth it! Pin It Now!

  1. I love the idea of book baskets! We definitely have books easily accessible around here, but they're more like ... well ... just ... everywhere. Haha.

Maile is 15 months old. We've been trying really hard to teach her how to be gentle with regular books, too, but her favorite board books right now are:

    1. Llama Llama Nighty Night
    2. Goodnight Moon
    3. The Very Hungry Caterpillar
    4. Baby Faces: Peek-a-Boo!
    5. Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

  2. Katie, thanks for stopping by! Sounds like you and I are in the same boat (James is 14, almost 15 months). Such a fun age. I just clicked over and read some of your blog....love it. I'll have to subscribe. :). Have a great day!

  3. Ahh, Kristin, I think quite possibly we are soul sisters! :) I, too, LOVE books. We still have books all over our house, even though my boys are much older than James. I think we STILL have That's Not My Tractor and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. I cannot seem to part with the books, even when they are obviously outgrown in our house! My favorite memories of school are getting book orders back and finding a pile of books on my desk after recess. Now as a mom I get as excited when the boys bring home book orders as they do! Love your blog!

    1. Paula, there's a large chance that we are, in fact, soul sisters. :) I can TOTALLY relate to not parting with those books. Not only are they great books, but they are also tied to so many wonderful memories. I say no need to get rid of them! Also, 100% agree with loving to get book orders in school. When I taught 1st grade, that was STILL one of my favorite things. During my plan time I'd sit and flip through the order (and possibly purchase a few too many books...oops). Thanks for checking out the blog!
