Dear James,
i'm pretty certain I blinked and now suddenly here you are...18 months old.
how did this happen?
and who can I talk to about not liking how fast you are growing up?
as much as I'd love to keep you my little baby boy forever, it just isn't possible. With that being said, I suppose I'll get on with why you're so great at 18 months (because you really are great)!
you talk constantly, and I love that.
we give you a word to say, and you attempt it.
even if it doesn't always come out sounding like the original word.
you're always pleased as punch with trying.
you have a pretty big vocabulary,
you can say and recognize several letters of the alphabet,
and you can count to ten.
you make your daddy and me so proud.
and that makes my heart so happy.
Music is a huge part of my life,
and I would love to share that with you.
your current favorite song is "Ho Hey" by The Lumineers.
you mostly enjoy repeating the "Ho" and "Hey" parts of the song.
you love our 20 year old cat, Abby.
last week when I put her in the pet carrier (she spent Christmas at GiGi and Bop Bop's house with us) you got very upset by that.
you are always wanting to pet her and pick her up,
although she isn't such a fan of that.
you. love. sports.
wonder where that comes from? cough::daddy::cough
you almost always have a ball in hand...more specifically, a football or a basketball.
these days, we're spending most of our time shooting balls in the hoop.
over, and over, and over again.
you never tire of this.
i'm pretty positive daddy will have you practicing layups here soon.
you also enjoy grabbing the remote, handing it to anyone who will take it, and demanding that football be turned on the TV.
you'll be watching ESPN while eating breakfast in no time, just like your daddy did when he was a little guy.
i'm thinking your love language may be physical touch.
throughout the day, you come to me for an occasional hug or cuddle to "re-charge" and then you're ready to get down and continue playing.
I love those moments when we do get to cuddle with you, if only for a few seconds.
I treasure this, because I know someday down the road it won't be cool anymore to hug your mom, especially in public!
I could go on and on and on about all of the funny, silly, wonderful things you do, but I'll leave it at this for now.
Jamers, I'm so thankful that God chose us to be your parents. You have already taught us more than you'll ever know.
I love you, my sweet baby toddler boy.
Great pictures, friend ... and a great post. It made me tear up! Probably because James and Maile are at such similar stages in their little lives.
ReplyDeleteThat is amazing that your cat is 20! Our Mischka will be 11 this year. She can be pretty crotchety, and she's always been antisocial, but it never ceases to make me smile how (generally) patient she is with Maile.
aww, thank you, Katie!
Deleteyou're so right...they're so close in age and doing a lot of the same things. I can't believe how fast time flies..it seems like just yesterday I was holding a newborn!
I can't believe that he can count to 10!! WOW! So incredible! You have a sweet little smarty pants! He sounds like such a beautiful-hearted boy, love that! Happy 18 months, James! xo
ReplyDeletethanks, girl!
Deletehe's just like his daddy...LOVES to talk. :)
aw, thank you so much for stopping by! I'll be sure to check out your blog. :)
ReplyDeleteLove your blog, love that you're from Iowa (I'm from LeMars, IA, near Sioux City...home of Well's Blue Bunny ice cream!) anyways, slight problem...GO HAWKS! ;)
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness, how funny is that?! my dad is from northwest IA, so we visit Blue Bunny often. I loooove their ice cream. oh, and I'll look past you being a hawk fan. ;) only kidding! thanks for stopping by!!
