on a boring sunday night.

I'm pretty sure it was the weather.

I mean, Saturday was a beautiful 75 degree, sun shining kind've day.

Sunday decided to be drastically different.

We headed out to church that morning in blaaaaaah weather.
It was cloudy, 30 something degrees, and pouring (freezing) rain.

Definitely didn't help my blah attitude.

That evening, while we sat in the playroom watching James play, I turned to Michael and said
"I'm bored.  Let's do something."

I could tell James was bored, too, as he had spent (almost) the entire day cooped up inside (oh, it's going to be a loooong winter if we get lots of snow).

Michael and I spent approximately 30 minutes going back and forth about what we could do, and ended with no decision.

Finally, he chimed in with,
"I'm going to write down some ideas on paper, throw it in a bowl, and you choose one out.  Whatever it says, we're doing it."

I thought that sounded quite entertaining, so I happily obliged.

James and I kept busy while dad wrote down his grand ideas.

We played ball...

 Practiced tossed around the letters...

I attempted to coax James into cleaning up his play room, but was unsuccessful with that...

 and then it was time.

Time to grab from the bucket pumpkin that was still sitting out on our counter.

I chose the one that said
"head to an all you can eat Chinese buffet."

But then we decided that might not be the best decision, because it would be hard to find something for James to eat.

So I took out another one...
and another one...
and another one.

Until I had pulled out every single one.

We finally decided to drive to a nearby town and pick out a restaurant there...

until James lost it.

We drove for approximately 1 minute before deciding to head to the local grocery store where we would let James walk around, pick up some cheese for Fried Egg Sandwiches, and grab a Red Box.

And you know what?

It turned out to be quite the adventure.

Sure, it didn't go as planned, but I loved that my husband was up for something new and different and got creative with it (the drawing from a pumpkin).

James enjoyed his walk around the grocery store.
Probably much more than sitting in a car for an extended period of time.

And we were home in time to make a quick dinner,

get the teething grump to bed (I LOVE YOU, JAMES!),

and soak in the remaining hours of our Sunday evening.

  3. That's so fun. My husband and I love having nights like this - mini-adventures that sound silly to other people, but are so much fun to us! xo C

  7. Okay, I am so glad that Maile isn't the only one who looks like a sad chipmunk when she's teething! James is an adorable sad chipmunk, by the way. ;)

Michael definitely gets Husband Points for his nifty little idea! Sans the ideas, and pumpkin, we actually ended up doing the same thing this afternoon. Teething has meant only a 30-minute nap for Maile, so we drove 10 minutes down the road to Walmart, and Maile had a blast letting Tim chasing her around, while I picked up some last-minute Thanksgiving goodies ... and also maybe some goat cheese, which I'm slightly obsessed with. Haha. Who would think that Wally World could be such a fun family outing!?

  8. Ohhh Katie, teething is NO fun (for baby or parents!). Glad we're in this together. Haha

Your trip to Wally World sounded like fun! Glad Maile could get out and explore. We like to get out and explore, too. Especially on lack of nap days...If a nap is a no go for J, I have to keep him mighty entertained or else he loses it! :)
