for when that time comes.

Let me start off by saying,
"No. I'm not pregnant. This is not an announcement of any kind."
Ok, glad I got that out of the way.
I figured I'd clear the air so I didn't have people trying to read between the lines.
None of that here, I just told you straight out.

But...I have a confession.
Hi, my name is Kristin, and
I have baby fever.
There. I said it.

I've known for...well...ever that I've always wanted to be a mama.
I used to nurture and take care of my dolls.
I'd carefully dress them and tuck them in for their naps.
I'd watch real moms tend to the needs of their children and think to myself, "I want to do that some day..."
What I didn't know, and to be honest, wasn't fully prepared for, is the INSANE amount of love you feel for this new little life.
It was instant.
The doctor handed James to me for the first time after giving birth and I was a changed person.
Simple as that.
I mean, just when I begin to think that there couldn't possibly be more love in my heart for James, a new day arrives and I find myself loving him even more.

As Michael and I talk about adding to our little family, I begin to find certain questions creeping into my mind.
"What if I don't love baby number 2 as much as I love James?"
"Would I have enough love to give to the next one?"
"What if James has a hard time adjusting to a new sibling?"
I've heard it time and time again.  Everyone says that it's instant love with the second (and third, and fourth, and however many you decide to have).  You automatically make room in your heart for this new little life.
It just happens.
The good news?
I have some time to prepare.
I have some time to continue to love my sweet not so baby boy.

And when baby number 2 comes?
I will be ready...
and so, SO excited.

  2. You're not alone in your baby fever! Mr. M and I both have it ... bad. (And no, I'm not pregnant either.)

Unlike you, motherhood wasn't one of those things that I dreamed of, that I imagined in my dreams. I wasn't even sure about marriage! Ha. Boy did the Lord have other plans for me.

Now, not only am I kind of obsessed with being a mom -- Seriously. Isn't it the BEST!? Even when it's the worst? :) But I can't wait to add to our family.

Even though I worry about it, too, I'm sure that, God-willing, when that second sweet babe comes along, you will have plenty of love in your heart to go around. I think that He just allows our hearts to grow with each child.

  7. Like Katie (above), I wasn't even sure that I ever wanted kids. Now that I have Chloe, I can't imagine loving anything else nearly as much (and that includes another baby). We definitely want to expand our family too and I often wonder the exact same things that you mentioned. I guess we'll just have to trust what everyone else says is true, that your love doesn't split, it GROWS to include the new babies. :-)

  9. I have had baby fever for over 2 years. I am 7 weeks pregnant today!!! I have soooo much love to give it's unreal and overwhelming (I'm actually crying about it as I write this...bit more emotional lately though!). After 2 losses at 8 weeks in, my love has actually grown enormously. Someone bigger than me has had different plans for my life. I have never been exceptionally religious, but your blog really speaks to me & I'm so happy to find it:) Thank you for your words!
