sunday happenings {via instagram}.

Busy Sunday, but in a good way.

Church in the morning.  It moved me, challenged me, and made me think long and hard.

Faith is the word I heard most in today's sermon.

Faith is explained in Hebrews 11:1-3:

"Now faith is the confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.  This is what the ancients were commended for.  By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible."

Having faith in God's plan is something I have struggled with recently, since we are still paying for our house in Kansas (any of you know anyone that wants a great home in Kansas City?})

This message reminded me that although I can't see what's shaping up on the path ahead of me, God can.

He keeps gently reminding me to be patient.

To trust in Him.

To have confidence in what I hope for and assurance about what I can't currently see.

Someday this will all make sense, but for now I will (try my hardest) wait patiently and continue to pray.

Early afternoon I headed back up to church to join in on the first rehearsal for the "Christmas Choir".

I came to rehearsal giddy and left on cloud 9.

If you know me, you know that I L-O-V-E Christmas music.

The fact that a group of people (myself included) have now started singing Christmas music....sigh.

Is it snowing yet?!  (Only kidding, people.  I'm not ready for the white stuff just yet!)

After rehearsal, James and I tagged along with the husband to watch a game FIVE games of "old man basketball".

They aren't really old, I just like to give them a hard time as they are huffing and puffing up and down the court.

My sister (Tiz) was on her way back to KC, so she stopped by and hung out with us for a bit.

Tiz and I mostly chased after James, who wanted nothing more than to go out and play basketball with the guys.

Bummer that he had to hang out with girls the whole time instead.  Maybe next time they'll let you play, J.  I'm sure of it!

In the car on the way home, Michael and I were talking about dinner.

We both didn't feel like preparing much and had some leftovers at home from my Grandma's 91st birthday celebration on Saturday (mom's homemade baked beans and homemade potato salad, which are both DELISH) so we decided to drive through Mickey D's and pick up burgers to complete our meal.  Really, don't be jealous of our healthy ways....

After dinner, little man had a bit longer to play around and Skype with grandparents, then it was off to dreamland for him.

I was anxious for 8:00 to roll around so I could watch Oprah's "Next Chapter".

She was going to interview Jason Russell from Invisible Children.

He was the creator of the Kony 2012 video that went viral in a matter of hours.

That led to his very public breakdown a few days after the release, which he discussed in length during the interview.

First Look: Invisible Children's Jason Russell on Oprah's Next Chapter
In an exclusive interview, Jason Russell, the creator of Kony 2012—the most successful viral video of all time—discusses the intimate details of his public breakdown. For the first time ever, his wife describes the day her husband snapped.

What a powerful interview.

Sometimes people are so quick to judge a person (myself included!) without getting the full story.

Jason came clean in his interview and discussed everything (as hard as it must've been for him).

You guys, the mind is a powerful thing.

I already admired the man, but I have even more respect for him now.

I say, keep up the great work, Mr. Russell!  Those children in Africa need help, for sure.

Whew, I wasn't planning on writing a novel about my Sunday, but it turned out to be one.

Congrats to YOU if you made it to the end.  You must be a loyal reader, so thank you.

What did you do this weekend?

  1. Of course I made it to the end! :) Bummed that we missed church--sounds like a sermon I definitely needed! And awesome that you're doing the Christmas choir thing! I love Christmas music too, but alas, I cannot carry a tune. I would be a darn good lip-syncer though! :) Anxious to catch up with you this week!

  2. Thanks for being a loyal reader, Paula! Church was wonderful...you'll have to come next Sunday. :). Also, I think you should join the choir with me. I by NO means have a right to be singing, but I love Christmas music so I knew it had to happen. :). Can't wait to get together soon!

  3. Ok...now that I have this comment thing figured out...what did I do this weekend? Oh you know...just gave birth to our beautiful baby boy, Parker! So glad you, Michael, and Tiz could come visit us in the hospital. Can't wait for the day when James and Parker can play while their mommys hang out. :-)
